FH2MP multiplayer in Forza Horizon 2

This is the FH2MP 1.0.0-rc2 community multiplayer route for FH2 on PC. It uses the game's original networking protocol through Azimuth, adds matchmaking, Car Meets, Online Free Roam and partially restored online services. FH2MP is separate from ForzaInfinity and FH2Net.

FH2MP is an experimental release candidate. Expect connection problems, desync and unfinished features. It is not an official Xbox or Microsoft service. Use your own legally obtained Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One build 1.0.0.64).

What you need

•Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One build 1.0.0.64.

•Azimuth 0.9.10; other versions have not been verified for FH2MP rc2.

•Internet access, Windows or Linux via Wine/Proton.

•FH2MP Launcher. FH2 Extra Options 0.2.98 is the only supported build; the launcher can install it when missing.

•Back up your existing Azimuth settings and game saves before changes.

Download Azimuth · FH2MP latest release · FH2MP on FH2Mods

Step 1 — Download FH2MP Launcher

1. Open the official FH2MP Releases page.

2. Choose FH2MP 1.0.0-rc2 or a newer compatible release.

3. On Windows, download the windows-x64-setup.exe installer or portable.zip. For Linux, use .deb or .AppImage as appropriate.

4. Do not download the separate fh2mp-shim ZIP for normal installation. The launcher installs and updates this component for you.

Step 2 — Configure the launcher

1. Close Azimuth and the game, then run FH2MP Launcher.

2. Let it locate Azimuth or select the folder containing azimuth.exe.

3. Verify that Azimuth is version 0.9.10.

4. Check Extra Options in the launcher Settings. FH2MP rc2 supports 0.2.98, not 0.2.88 from early rc1 instructions. Let the launcher install the supported build if none is installed.

5. Accept the launcher-provided signed shim updates rather than installing incompatible networking DLLs manually.

On Linux, select your Proton script or prefix in launcher Settings if requested.

Step 3 — Create your multiplayer identity

1. Choose a gamertag and profile picture in FH2MP Launcher.

2. The launcher creates an account without email or password, using a secret key stored on your device.

3. Save your recovery code privately. It is used to move the account to another machine. Never post it publicly.

4. Press PLAY.

Step 4 — Join other players

•In the game, use the Car Meets and Online Free Roam options to find other players.

•Accept an Online Free Roam invitation or join an available session through matchmaking.

•In a session, you can try online races and Road Trip modes such as King and Infection, although these are still under development.

•Rivals, leaderboards, tunes, paint jobs and clubs are partly restored. Some leaderboards currently contain placeholder data.

You do not need to host a server or enter a custom server address for FH2MP. FH2MP uses its own central service and automatic matchmaking.

Troubleshooting

Stuck on "searching" or "Unable to join session"

The Windows joining bug was fixed in rc2. Update the launcher and shim, fully restart the game and try again.

Launcher cannot reach server

Read the launcher error: rc2 shows certificate, proxy and timeout failures more clearly. Its Windows log is located at:

%LOCALAPPDATA%/FH2MP/cache/launcher.log

For Linux: ~/.cache/fh2mp/launcher.log. Remove private identifiers before sending diagnostic logs.

Multiplayer events fail or desync

FH2MP rc2 has no reliable packet-loss recovery and some game events are incomplete. A stable connection helps, but some bugs are still upstream. Report reproducible issues to the project.

Missing friends, convoys or DLC online

Those features are not fully implemented yet. Storm Island and Porsche DLC online are not supported. Road Trips, traffic sync, racing results and some Rivals screens remain experimental.

Compatibility and official support

FH2MP uses its own network shim and has not been confirmed compatible with FH2ML. Do not combine FH2MP, ForzaInfinity or FH2Net installers in one Azimuth installation without verifying compatibility. Keep a clean backup or separate Azimuth install.
